Collage is all about the joyful process of cutting, arranging, and pasting painted papers, yet it’s a meaningful enough process to have satisfied Picasso, Braque, Matisse, Motherwell and many other well known artists. Design and color aspects of what makes strong and beautiful art will be addressed in a fun and relaxed environment. Experiment, say "what if?" and let go of your inner critic. There are no mistakes in collage, only adjustments and revisions. We will paint many papers in solid colors, textures, and patterns on the first day and then use them to make collages on the second day. Demonstrations, individualized instruction, and group discussion included.  Some materials provided, materials list provided upon registration. Materials fee.

2017 Guest Artist Workshops:
October 20-22, 2017 - Jenny Nelson
Abstract Painting, Intermediate-Advanced Oils, 3 days, 9:30 - 4:00, $475.

Intermediate/Advanced Abstract Painting:
This workshop is designed for painters interested in exploring more deeply the fundamental elements that come together to create a successful abstract painting. Students will begin by moving through a series of guided exercises, which will focus on paint application, composition, mark making and the creation of organic shapes.
There will be a focus on building a personal abstract language, as students will be given ample time to work independently with their own materials. There will be discussion of the work throughout class, as well as group critiques.
Open to intermediate and advanced students with the ability to create work on their own. This is an oil painting workshop. Students should be familiar with using oil paint and the related materials. If you prefer to work in acrylics and are familiar with them, Golden Open Acrylics are suggested.
